How to Allow Third-Party Cookies for First Legal's FirstConnect Portal

When using First Legal's FirstConnect portal, you may encounter an issue where the single sign-on feature does not work as expected. This is often due to your browser's privacy settings that block third-party cookies. Third-party cookies are utilized by many sites to enable various features, including single sign-on services. Here's how to allow third-party cookies in Safari and Microsoft Edge browsers:

For Safari Users:

  1. Open Safari Preferences:
    • On your Mac, open Safari, click on 'Safari' in the menu bar, and select 'Preferences'.
  2. Navigate to the Privacy Tab:
    • Click on the 'Privacy' tab to view privacy settings.
  3. Adjust Website Tracking and IP Address Settings:
    • If the 'Prevent cross-site tracking' option is checked, uncheck it. This will allow Safari to permit third-party cookies necessary for tracking across different domains, which is often required for single sign-on features.
    • The 'Hide IP address from trackers' option can remain enabled as it does not directly affect cookie settings.

For Microsoft Edge Users:

  1. Open Edge Settings:
    • Click on the three dots (...) on the top right corner of your Edge browser to open the menu.
    • Click on 'Settings'.
  2. Cookies and Site Permissions:
    • In the sidebar of the settings menu, find and click on ‘Cookies and site permissions’.
  3. Allow Third-Party Cookies:
    • Under the 'Cookies and site data' section, make sure the 'Block third-party cookies' option is turned off.
    • This ensures that third-party cookies required for the single sign-on service can be set by the FirstConnect portal.

After changing these settings, restart your browser, navigate back to the FirstConnect portal, and try the single sign-on feature again. It should now work without issues. If you continue to experience problems, you may need to check if any extensions or third-party software are blocking cookies and adjust those settings accordingly.

Always remember that changing your cookie preferences can affect your browsing privacy and security. After using the portal, you may want to revert to the more private settings if you're concerned about being tracked across different sites.
